Safety in Relationship

We come to know our Preschool children and their families deeply, creating a sense of connection that is truly unique. In this safe and nurturing environment, your child will feel comfortable, free to explore, and confident to take on new challenges. Because we know each child so well, our teachers are able to differentiate learning experiences to support each child’s individual growth.

Respect

At The Adelson School, respect (kavod) is something we share with everyone in our community. Even our youngest children can begin to understand and practice this important value. We model kavod by listening carefully to children, honoring their ideas, and giving them opportunities to find and use their voices. Offering choices is another way we show respect, helping children learn that their thoughts and decisions matter.

Security

Our campus is exceptionally safe, giving your child a secure environment to thrive and you the comfort of knowing they are well protected.

Intro to Academics

Preschool programming is differentiated between three groups: 18+ months, 2-year-olds, and 3-year-olds. It culminates in the Junior Kindergarten program, which tests kindergarten preparedness benchmarks.

Language and Early Literacy

At The Adelson Preschool, we place a strong emphasis on building rich language skills that support every area of a child’s growth. Children are immersed in an environment that is both English- and Hebrew-rich, where stories, songs, conversations, and cultural experiences strengthen vocabulary, communication, and early literacy. For families who choose it, our Hebrew Immersion class offers even deeper exposure, giving children the opportunity to develop more advanced Hebrew speaking abilities at an early age. This strong foundation in language—both English and Hebrew—supports cognitive development, self-expression, and a lifelong love of communication.

Reading and Writing

At The Adelson Preschool, children discover the joy of stories and the power of words. Daily read-alouds spark imagination, foster a love of books, and invite children into rich conversations that build comprehension and introduce them to tier two vocabulary. Phonological awareness activities help children hear and play with sounds, laying the groundwork for decoding words. Writing is introduced in creative and meaningful ways, such as through dictation, journaling, storytelling, and labeling work, so children begin to see themselves as authors and illustrators. These joyful experiences nurture confidence, curiosity, and the foundational skills needed for reading and writing success.

Math and Science

At The Adelson Preschool, children build early math skills through hands-on experiences that make abstract ideas concrete. By sorting, counting, building, and working with manipulatives, they begin to understand patterns, numbers, shapes, and problem-solving in meaningful ways. Science learning grows out of children’s natural curiosity. Whether observing plants, weather, experimenting with water, or exploring the outdoors, children are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, test out their hypotheses, and use science vocabulary to describe their discoveries. These experiences not only introduce them to the process of scientific inquiry but also help them see the connections between their classroom learning and the wider world.

Learning Skills

As they discover how the core subject areas above come together to provide answers, preschoolers are also learning how to learn. They develop skills that will be increasingly essential in kindergarten and beyond:

  • Independence - How to take initiative and move forward with confidence.
  • Self-advocacy - How to recognize when they need help and ask for it.
  • Executive functioning - How to care for themselves and manage their time and possessions.
  • Motivation - How to channel their innate love of learning into pursuing their goals.
  • Teamwork - How to collaborate with others to complete a task.
  • Problem solving - How to identify problems and develop creative solutions.

Jewish Studies

Jewish identity and ethos are the foundation of our humanistic, universal values. For this reason, explorations of Jewish culture, traditions, holidays, and learning are woven throughout the Preschool curriculum and daily life. Through these experiences, children begin to internalize our school’s core values of RUACH: Respect, Understanding differences, Academic excellence, Community of kindness, and Honoring Judaism and Israel, while also embracing broader Jewish principles such as tikkun olam (repairing the world) and b’tzelem Elohim (in the image of G-d). These values guide children’s interactions, help shape their character, and foster a sense of responsibility, empathy, and connection to both their community and the wider world.

Cultural Enrichment

All children at The Adelson Preschool benefit from rich explorations of Jewish culture and values, regardless of their religious background. Through songs, movement, and dance, children experience the joy and creativity inherent in Jewish traditions. They learn about Israel’s culture and geography fostering a broader global perspective. These experiences encourage children to celebrate diversity, build cultural awareness, and develop a sense of connection to the Jewish people and the wider world. By integrating art, music, storytelling, and hands-on activities, cultural enrichment becomes a lively part of each day, sparking curiosity, self-expression, and appreciation for heritage.

Preschool Outcomes

By the time your child completes Junior Kindergarten, they will be ready to embrace the exciting challenges and opportunities that await in grades K–5. Throughout their time in our Preschool, children will continue to grow as curious and creative thinkers, confident communicators, and empathetic, independent leaders. They will develop strong academic skills, a love of learning, and an understanding of Jewish values and traditions, including respect, kindness, and responsibility to others. Guided by these experiences, children leave preschool prepared not only for school success but also to make thoughtful, meaningful contributions to their community and the world around them.

Jewish Nevada Right Start

Right Start, the first program of its kind in Nevada, was created to increase awareness and access to Jewish early childhood programs for our community's families. Jewish Nevada Right Start provides a financial voucher as a one-time incentive for Jewish families enrolling their children in a Jewish infant, toddler, or preschool program for the first time.
